Matiiv Y. Social Guidelines of Ukrainian Political Parties (late 19th – early 21st century)

A comprehensive examination has been conducted of the social orientations of Ukrainian political parties that operated in the Ukrainian lands at the end of the 19th – first half of the 20th century, as well as at the current stage of Ukrainian state-building. The aim of the dissertation is to provide a thorough analysis of the social orientations of Ukrainian political parties from the late 19th to the early 21st century in the context of the socio-political and socio-economic processes of the defined period. To achieve this aim, the following objectives have been set: to analyze the historiography of the issue and the source base of the research, as well as its theoretical and methodological foundations; to study the transformation of the social slogans of Ukrainian political parties that operated in the western Ukrainian lands at the end of the 19th – first half of the 20th century; to characterize the social priorities of Ukrainian political parties in the Dnipro region at the beginning of the 20th century and during the Ukrainian Revolution (1917–1921); to identify the social orientations of the first Ukrainian political parties in the final stage of the USSR’s existence; to examine the achievements of political parties in the social sphere under the conditions of the socio-economic crisis of the late 20th – early 21st century; to demonstrate the influence of the social policies of political parties on state-building processes and the formation of state institutions under conditions of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration. The object of the dissertation is Ukrainian political parties that functioned from the late 19th to the early 21st century. The subject of the study is the social ideas, concepts, programs, and practices of Ukrainian political parties, which were formed and transformed within the framework of socio-political processes and socio-economic challenges of the late 19th – early 21st century. The methodological foundation of the dissertation is based on the principles of historicism, scholarly objectivity, systematicity, comprehensiveness, and continuity. The study makes wide use of general historical methods (problem-chronological, historical-typological, historical-comparative, historical-genetic, historical-systemic) as well as general scientific methods (logical analysis, abstraction, generalization, induction, and deduction).
