Essay

The dissertation is devoted to solving a large-scale and complex scientific problem in the field of economics and enterprise management, which consists in forming the theoretical and methodological foundations of integrated competitiveness management of construction enterprises under conditions of deep transformation of construction development, a matter of critical importance for the recovery of the national economy, ensuring its structural modernisation, and building a sustainable foundation for long-term growth in the post-conflict period. The research is aimed at bridging the existing theoretical gaps between classical models of competitiveness management and the new realities of the construction sector's functioning, which is characterised by a poly-crisis environment, a multiplicity of stakeholders, and the necessity of simultaneously addressing the challenges of physical reconstruction, institutional reform, and technological re-equipment of the industry. In the course of the research, scientific approaches to analysing competitiveness are expanded through its interpretation as a strategic technological system, which has enabled the formation of a comprehensive understanding of the economic processes of construction enterprises' functioning as complex integrated structures capable of self-organisation, adaptation, and evolutionary development under conditions of a turbulent external environment. This interpretation overcomes the limitations of static models of competitive analysis and accounts for the dynamic aspects of forming, accumulating, and transforming competitive potential over time. The theoretical and methodological foundations of the research are developed on the basis of integrating the principles of strategic focusing, the theory of innovation diffusion, and the concept of synergistic effect, which ensures the transition from isolated functioning of individual enterprises to network interactions, the formation of ecosystem competitive advantages, and collective generation of innovation value. In this context, construction development is considered as a complex open economic system that requires the application of an integrated organisational and economic management mechanism at all levels of planning and organisation of the investment and construction market segment, including the macro-institutional, meso-regional, and micro-organisational levels. The proposed systemic approach accounts for the poly-variability of development trajectories, the possibility of phase transitions between equilibrium states, and the necessity of managing critical bifurcation points in the transformation processes of construction enterprises. Overall, the research results demonstrate that the development of construction enterprises based on integrated competitiveness management, corporate models of development business organisation, and the application of innovative digital technologies is a key prerequisite for enhancing the efficiency of the investment and construction sphere, attracting large-scale investment, and ensuring organisational and economic stability under conditions of construction development transformation. The obtained scientific results form a coherent theoretical and methodological platform that integrates microeconomic theory of the firm, regional economics, the theory of innovation systems, and institutional economics into a unified analytical framework for researching the competitiveness of construction enterprises. The approbation of the developed models and mechanisms confirms their adequacy to the current conditions of the industry's functioning and their capacity to generate practically significant managerial decisions for enterprises of various scales and organisational forms. The practical significance of the obtained results lies in the possibility of their direct application by construction enterprises of Ukraine to enhance competitiveness and adapt to contemporary operating conditions. The proposed approaches create a reliable methodological and practical foundation for deep restructuring of construction enterprises, the formation of integrated development structures, and the transition to new, resilient business models oriented towards sustainable construction, comprehensive digitalisation of processes, implementation of circular economy principles, and a substantial increase in the investment attractiveness of the industry under conditions of large-scale and long-term reconstruction of Ukraine. The results of the dissertation research can serve as a scientific basis for developing sectoral programmes for the development of the construction complex, regional strategies for post-war recovery, corporate strategies of construction enterprises, as well as for improving the regulatory framework governing investment and construction activity in the context of European integration and adaptation to the requirements of international financial institutions.
