In the training of future teachers in the field of art, health-preserving competence
acquires a dual meaning. It includes two components: caring for one's own health and the ability
to form health-preserving skills and values in one's future students.
Since general and professional competencies are common to all representatives of
pedagogical education, it can be concluded that general and professional competencies for future
teachers of the arts combine pedagogical and artistic components and contain elements of the
health-preserving component (MES of Ukraine, 2024).
This component is manifested through general competencies that require higher
education applicants to have the ability to self-development, adaptation and stress resistance. The
health-preserving component is also included in professional competencies and is detailed in
educational programs of higher education institutions in order to prepare not only a highly
qualified artist and teacher, but also a person who is able to take care of his own health for
effective and long-term professional activity. The implementation of the health-preserving
component takes place in physical education classes, since physical activity is the main condition
for the formation and preservation of health.
It is physical activity that determines 75% of the state of health in relation to lifestyle
(WHO, 2010, Ministry of Health of Ukraine, 2021, 2023, 2025). In addition, the health-
preserving component can also be included in other educational components, but the main factor
in the formation and preservation of health remains physical education (WHO, 2010, Ministry of
Health of Ukraine, 2021, 2023, 2025, Ukrainian Pravda, 2022).
The ability to maintain one’s own health contributes to the improvement of both the
mental state and the appearance of a person. As the great educator of the 20th century Maria
Montessori pointed out (Frierson, 2021), a future teacher must, first of all, be attractive to
children. Attractiveness to children involves the appearance of the teacher at the first stage. And
in order to have a beautiful appearance, you need to have good health (Bejtka, et. all, 2022;
Araujo, et. all, 2020; Korobeynikov, et. all, 2017). In addition, future teachers must overcome all
the difficulties of studying at the university. Their future work is also associated with
psychological and physical stress (Cieślicka, et. all, 2022; Banville, et. all, 2021; Muszkieta, et.
all, 2019; Borysenko, et. all, 2020). After all, they will need to effectively interact with children,
with parents, with the management of the school and education in general, prepare for classes,
have time to work with documentation and pay attention to their own family. And most
importantly, teachers carry knowledge to future generations. And they also need to convey
knowledge about a healthy lifestyle to their students and form in them the skills and abilities to
strengthen and preserve health. Only in this way can a healthy nation be formed.
Among future teachers, future specialists attract special attention from the art field. The
art education field usually includes music, fine arts, and choreography. We will focus on health-
saving technologies for artists. Their professional activities are characterized by a low level of
dynamic physical activity, significant static load, and high-precision finger work.
Representatives of these specialties have special psychological features, primarily developed
creative thinking with figurative perception and an active right hemisphere of the brain. This is
key to creating outstanding works, but also causes certain the abundance of their behavior. For
example, they can be completely absorbed in a creative project, forgetting about elementary
needs, such as food and sleep, and even more so about regular physical exercises necessary for a
healthy lifestyle. Therefore, it is extremely important to choose for them such physical exercises
and methods of physical education that would be harmoniously combined with their artistic
activities and would arouse sincere interest in future teachers of the art education field. And this
is natural, because art by its very nature seeks constant creative growth. It should be noted that
people at all times have sought the unity of physical, intellectual and physical development.
Thus, the great mathematician, philosopher, humanist Pythagoras was the champion of the
Olympics in Greece in fist fighting and an innovator in music (McMahon, et. all, 2016;
Stolyarov, 1989, 1990, 1991). And the famous swordsman Miyamoto Musashi (Reichert, 2018)
pointed out that a true warrior must get acquainted with every art form and learn the ways of all
professions. This is no coincidence, since mastering a wide range of movements affects the
coordination of the central nervous system (Lyzohub Lyzohub, et. all, 2016; Xiaofei, et. all,
2021; Kozina, et. all, 2016).
