The object of the study is pedagogical biography as a direction of development of historical and pedagogical science of Ukraine in the late 20th - first quarter of the 21st century. The subject of the study is methodology, stages, trends of research on the personalities of foreign cultural and educational figures in Ukrainian pedagogical science in the 90s of the 20th - first quarter of the 21st century.The purpose of the study is to carry out a comprehensive analysis of the scientific and methodological principles, historiographical dimension, sources, stages, trends of research on the personalities of foreign cultural and educational figures in Ukrainian pedagogical science in the 90s of the 20th - first quarter of the 21st century. and to determine ways of using this experience in the development of modern historical and pedagogical science and improving the educational process. The methodology is based on historical-pedagogical, historiographical, comparative-pedagogical in combination with systemic-structural, chronological, problem-thematic and content-analytical methods. The theoretical results of the study consist in the systematization of the corpus of historiographical works, the identification of methodological approaches and trends, the construction of a periodization of the development of Ukrainian pedagogical science in the study of foreign figures. Based on the processing of more than 500 sources, a historiographical discourse was reconstructed, covering the work of foreign teachers from the Ancient World to the beginning of the 21st century. Practical results include the creation of a bibliographic register of scientific works, the development of an author's algorithm for the study of pedagogical personalities, the compilation of a thematic classification, as well as the formation of methodological recommendations for the use of the achievements of pedagogical biographical studies in teaching historical and pedagogical disciplines. The scientific novelty lies in the comprehensive analysis and reconstruction of the development of pedagogical biography in Ukraine in 1990–2020, in identifying the patterns of the formation of the historiography of foreign cultural and educational figures, in determining its stages, dominant approaches, terminological clarifications and directions of evolution. For the first time, a holistic model of the historiographic analysis of foreign pedagogical figures has been developed and its significance for modern scientific practice has been substantiated. The results obtained demonstrate the effectiveness of the implementation of the study in the educational process: the materials are already used in teaching courses on the history of pedagogy, comparative pedagogical studies, biography studies and methodology of scientific research, as well as in the preparation of course, qualification and master's theses. The field of use covers historical and pedagogical studies, scientific and methodological activities, development of curricula, creation of electronic registers of personalities, improvement of the content of education and formation of modern research competencies in future teachers and scientists. The dissertation work has carried out a synthesized analysis of the state, stages, and trends in the development of the historiography of domestic pedagogical science in the 90s of the 20th - early 21st centuries. about cultural and educational figures of foreign countries to determine the achievements, gaps, prospects for research on the specified problem and ways of using this scientific work in improving the educational process and reforming the national research system of education of Ukraine.
