Liu Y. Organizational and methodological principles of basketball player selection to build national teams for the main competitions of the year

The dissertation examines the current problems of preparing national basketball teams for the main competitions of the year and analyzes the influence of globalization, commercialization, and the professionalization of modern basketball on the intensification of competitive activity in high-performance teams and player selection. Regular club competitions alternate with periods when basketball players are invited to join national teams at different stages of the annual training cycle, which increases the importance of careful and rational periodization of training and competitive loads. The purpose of the study is to determine the organizational and methodological features of this process and to present clear criteria for selecting basketball players when forming national teams for participation in the main competitions of the year. Research objectives: 1. To analyze and summarize scientific data on the features of selecting basketball players at different stages of long-term athletic development based on specialized literature and Internet sources. 2. To determine the organizational and methodological features of training and to present an algorithm for selecting athletes when forming national teams for participation in the main competitions of the year. 3. To systematize and present informative criteria for selecting basketball players for participation in international competitions, and to develop model characteristics of key aspects of athletes’ readiness. 4. To determine the priority significance of selection criteria when forming national teams during different phases of the game season. 5. To identify promising ways to apply the proposed organizational algorithm and selection criteria, and to establish their effectiveness for the long-term preparation of the national basketball teams of Ukraine for the main competitions of the year. The object of the study is the preparation of national teams for the main competitions of the year. The subject of the study includes the organizational and methodological conditions and the criteria used for selecting athletes for national teams. Research methods: analysis of literary sources and Internet data, questionnaires, expert evaluations, pedagogical observation, pedagogical testing during the training process, analysis of competitive activity, psychological and psychophysiological methods, morpho-functional research methods, and mathematical-statistical methods. Scientific novelty. The scientific novelty lies in the systematization and presentation of the organizational conditions of training and the methodological aspects of forming national teams for participation in the main competitions of the year in the context of modern globalization and professionalization of basketball. The novelty also includes the development of a step-by-step algorithm for staged selection of basketball players for national teams and the definition of its conceptual principles. According to the results of the dissertation, the key factors influencing the preparation of national teams were identified and systematized. A three-stage selection algorithm was substantiated, which includes three main components: preliminary (review), intermediate, and final selection. Informative criteria for selecting basketball players for national teams were defined and systematized, and data were provided on the differentiated significance of these criteria depending on the phase of the game season. The application of the proposed organizational algorithm and selection criteria during the selection of players for the national teams of Ukraine made it possible to confirm their high informativeness.
