Hohol R. Physical Therapy in Patients with Pain-Related Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction.

Object of the study. The process of physical therapy for patients with temporomandibular joint pain-related dysfunction. Aim of the study. To theoretically substantiate, develop, and evaluate the effectiveness of a comprehensive physical therapy program for individuals with temporomandibular joint pain-related dysfunction. The program aims to improve patients' functional capabilities by correcting indicators of temporomandibular joint functional state, signs of myofascial pain syndrome in the face and neck, electromyographic parameters, as well as psychoemotional status, kinesiophobia, and health-related quality of life. Research methods. Analysis and synthesis of specialized and scientific-methodological literature. Quantitative assessment included the following indicators: to evaluate temporomandibular joint dysfunction: patients’ complaints and clinical examination were analyzed. The condition of the joint was assessed using the Hamburg Test, Helkimo Index, Pocabado Pain Map, and functional limitations were determined using the Jaw Functional Limitation Scale-20. To assess signs of myofascial pain syndrome of the face and neck: palpation, range of motion of the mandible, and cervical spine flexibility (measured by chin-to-sternum distance) were evaluated, along with manual muscle testing of the masticatory muscles. To assess bioelectrical activity of masticatory muscles: electromyographic measurements were used. To evaluate psychoemotional state: the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale was employed. To determine the impact on oral health: the Oral Health Impact Profile questionnaire was used. To assess kinesiophobia: the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia for Temporomandibular Disorders was applied. To evaluate health-related quality of life: the SF-36 Health Survey was used. Statistical analysis methods were applied to process the obtained data. Theoretical and practical significance. The study resulted in the development of a scientifically grounded comprehensive physical therapy program for individuals with temporomandibular joint pain-related dysfunction. Scientific novelty. The study provides a theoretical and scientific rationale for the development of a comprehensive physical therapy program for patients with temporomandibular joint pain-related dysfunction.
