Object of the study. The physical therapy process in elderly individuals with the consequences of total hip arthroplasty and obesity. Aim of the study. To theoretically substantiate, develop, and evaluate the effectiveness of a comprehensive physical therapy program for elderly individuals with the consequences of total hip arthroplasty and obesity, aimed at correcting their geriatric status through the correction of signs of dysfunction of the operated limb, changes in structural markers of adipose and muscle tissue, functional indicators of geriatric syndromes, and quality of life. Research methods. Analysis and synthesis of specialized and scientific-methodological literature. Quantitative evaluation included the following indicators: to characterize changes related to geriatric status, dysfunction of the operated joint, and obesity, patients’ complaints were recorded, pain was assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), general functioning was evaluated using the Modified Harris Hip Score and the Forgotten Joint Score 12, gait alterations were assessed using the Functional Gait Assessment and the 6-Minute Walk Test. To assess changes related to obesity, anthropometric measurements were performed (body weight, body mass index, waist and hip circumferences and their ratio). As structural criteria of muscle tissue, electromyography of the lower limb muscles, ultrasound assessment of the thickness of the main muscle groups of the limbs, measurement of the cross-sectional area of the psoas major muscle, and calculation of the skeletal muscle index using computed tomography were performed. Functional geriatric status was evaluated using handgrip and stand dynamometry, Short Physical Performance Battery, Performance-Oriented Mobility Assessment, and Fall Efficacy Scale. Features of functioning due to coxovertebral syndrome were characterized by the Oswestry Disability Index. Quality of life was assessed using the SF-36 Health Survey. Statistical analysis methods were applied to process the obtained data. Theoretical and practical significance. The study resulted in the development of a scientifically grounded comprehensive physical therapy program aimed at correcting geriatric status indicators in elderly individuals with the consequences of total hip arthroplasty and obesity. Scientific novelty. The study provides a theoretical and scientific rationale for the development of a comprehensive physical therapy program aimed at correcting geriatric status indicators in elderly individuals with the consequences of total hip arthroplasty and obesity.
