Essay

Dissertation presents the first comprehensive study and systematic analysis of affixal abbreviative derivatives of the Ukrainian language of the 1990s – the first quarter of the 21st century. A dictionary of abbreviations and abbreviative derivatives has been compiled as a result of the study. The need to understand the history of formation, semantic dynamics, functioning, and intensity of manifestation of abbreviative derivatives during the period of Ukraine's formation as an independent state with a single state Ukrainian language, the democratisation of public life, and the liberalisation of the linguistic norm of the Ukrainian language determined the relevance of the study. The issue of the formation, structure, spelling, and functioning of abbreviative derivatives became relevant in Ukrainian linguistics precisely during the period under study due to the intensification of the occurrence of neologisms formed from abbreviative bases.
