Volianskyi N. Educational and manipulative propaganda in the information space of Russia and Ukraine: comparative aspect.

This PhD dissertation examines educational and manipulative propaganda within the information space of Ukraine and Russia, providing a comparative analysis from the onset of the Russian Federation's full-scale war against Ukraine until October 2025. It analyzes the dynamics of propaganda narratives and the methods used to promote them since the beginning of the war. Additionally, it outlines strategies to counter Russian manipulative propaganda in Ukraine and offers independent recommendations for enhancing Ukraine's resilience in the information war. To achieve these objectives, the dissertation fulfills several key tasks. Particularly, it analyzes and systematizes scientific approaches to defining the concept of propaganda, organized chronologically and according to the criteria necessary for understanding its essence. A personal interpretation of the concept of propaganda is proposed. The historiography of propaganda is outlined both chronologically and in relation to events that have influenced research on its nature. Various types of propaganda are identified based on different criteria, with a justified choice of classification that underpins the research. Russian narratives in global and Russian media before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine are analyzed. The dynamics of the Russian Federation's propaganda narratives in the information space of Ukraine and Russia, from the beginning of the full-scale invasion to October 2025, are outlined. The methods of Russian manipulative and pseudo-educational propaganda in temporarily occupied territories are identified. A comparative analysis of educational and manipulative propaganda in the information spaces of Ukraine and Russia is presented. Strategies to counter Russian manipulative propaganda in Ukraine are proposed.
