A methodological approach is proposed to assess the competitiveness of the forestry industry based on a comparison of certain performance indicators (as components of an integral indicator) in 2020-2022 and 2023-2024, that is, assuming the operation of several hundred legal entities in 2020-2022, compared to one business entity in 2023-2024. An existing algorithm for the integral assessment of the competitiveness of the forestry industry using the geometric mean value is determined, in which the improved existing methodology contains certain changes, in particular, the need to use indicators for assessing the competitiveness of products and the image of the forestry industry in the conditions of its pure monopoly is eliminated. A well-founded interpretation of the concept of «competitiveness of forestry» as an indicator of management effectiveness based on the features of functioning related to the socio-ecological and economic priorities of the forestry sector, which has a number of industry characteristics (forest plantations have a long growth cycle, which forms a significant deferral of income; the industry must perform environmental functions - carbon absorption, purification of water bodies, restoration of degraded and eco-destructive lands; forestry contributes to the development of hunting, recreational and tourist activities, which constitute an important social component of society, etc.). A pure monopoly market has formed in the state forestry sector, since the State Enterprise «Forests of Ukraine» accounts for 85-88% of the forest products sold on the domestic market. The structure of competitive advantages of the obtained monopoly position in the forestry industry is summarized, which includes resource, technological, informational and sales aspects. The use of the "Boston Consulting Group" matrix of forestry activities indicates its identification in the "star" matrix, since the growth rates and its share in the forest products market are quite high (respectively, the growth rates of sales volume are more than 10% and the largest share in terms of sales volume on the market is 85%). This matrix format provides for a development strategy of the research subject "Increase in market share (growth)", aimed at increasing the volume of production or/and supporting the advantages of its own products. Based on the calculations performed using economic and mathematical models, the forecast value of the integrated indicator of forestry competitiveness in 2030 will be 0.464 (approximation coefficient - 0.954). The value of the integrated indicator of forestry competitiveness will potentially increase by 0.1135 points, which is 32% of its growth over the six forecast years (2025-2030) compared to the base year 2024 and by 0.3162 points, which is 214% of its growth over the five actual and six forecast years (2020-2030). A model of an effective mechanism for domestic competitive development of forestry has been developed, the essence of which lies in the presence of competitive advantages (initial attributes), which should be effectively transformed through the implementation of an effective forestry management system (at the level of the State Enterprise «Forests of Ukraine» - the optimal combination of natural, labor, financial, material and logistical resources, innovative products with external environmental tools - lobbying and the use of tax and credit incentives) into obtaining high-quality and certified forest products (services) in a competitive price segment. A descriptive model of the formation of strategic goals for the competitive development of forestry is substantiated, which involves the formation of targets for social, environmental, economic development and targets for the management system, respectively, according to the following algorithm: analysis and forecast of the strategic development of the forestry sector; formation of the main strategic guidelines for the development of forestry; formation of a system of strategic targets for the socio-ecological and economic development of the forestry sector; determination of indicators characterizing the state of each of the forestry subsystems; calculation of quantitative values of the determined indicators; establishment of criteria for compliance (consistency) of quantitative values of indicators; determination of threshold values of quantitative indicators of the development of the industry, critical for its safety; selection and approval of methods for assessing the effectiveness of target indicators; conducting an analytical study aimed at checking quantitative indicators for their internal consistency, safety and efficiency
