Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the study of the problem of the formation of intercultural competence of adolescents in foreign language lessons. The relevance of its topic is due to the urgent need of modern Ukrainian society for citizens who are capable of foreign language communication and mutual understanding with representatives of other cultures, and are also able to quickly integrate into a multicultural environment. This demand of society is objectively determined by the rapid development of global processes in Europe and the world, the steady expansion of academic and cultural ties of Ukraine with many European countries and the USA, and the need to establish the international image of our state. An important means of solving these tasks is not only knowledge of the languages of international communication, the main of which is English, but also the ability of our citizens to effectively overcome cultural and mental barriers with foreigners. In addition to foreign language, citizens of Ukraine must learn the culture of the country whose language is being studied, the peculiarities of traditions, etiquette, everyday life, and mentality of its inhabitants and possess appropriate intercultural skills and abilities. Therefore, one of the priority tasks of modern education in Ukraine is the effective formation of intercultural competence of adolescents, which is the foundation for the intercultural competence of an adult personality. Therefore, the process of forming intercultural competence of students in foreign language lessons requires permanent updating, modernization, and optimization, as well as the search for adequate and practical educational tools necessary for this. According to the above, the object of the study is the formation of intercultural competence of adolescents in foreign language lessons. The subject of the research is the pedagogical conditions for the formation of intercultural competence of adolescents in foreign language lessons. The purpose of the thesis is to substantiate the pedagogical conditions for the formation of intercultural competence of adolescents and experimentally verify their effectiveness.
