The dissertation is dedicated to a comprehensive theoretical generalization, methodological substantiation, and practical development of the organizational-economic foundations for ensuring and increasing the profitability of agrarian enterprises amid the modern challenges facing Ukraine’s agrarian sector. The research addresses the critical issue of enhancing the economic efficiency and financial-economic stability of agrarian enterprises through the rational utilization of their potential, optimization of production structure, implementation of mechanisms to secure sustainable financial results, and creation of conditions for sustainable development in an environment of economic instability, geopolitical risks, and climate change. In the first chapter, a theoretical generalization of the essence of profit and profitability as key categories of the agrarian sector economy is presented. Author’s definitions of these concepts are formulated, taking into account the specifics of agrarian production: profit is defined as an absolute financial result that exceeds costs and serves as a source for investment support, technical re-equipment, innovative development, and formation of the state budget; profitability is viewed as a relative indicator of the economic efficiency of resource use in production processes, enabling enterprises to adapt to market conditions, enhance competitiveness, and ensure economic security. The functions of profit in agrarian enterprises are identified: accounting (reflecting the efficiency of economic activity), distributive (forming incomes for budgets and internal development), and stimulating (motivating personnel and promoting innovation implementation). These functions are adapted to the peculiarities of agrarian production, where they help address challenges such as soil degradation, energy crises, and logistical barriers. A procedure is proposed for applying cognitive modeling to interconnected factors of the internal and external environment that influence the profitability of agrarian enterprises. The procedure integrates the following stages: defining the object, data collection, dependency analysis, trend identification, and formulation of recommendations. It emphasizes minimal intervention in the management system to support sustainable enterprise development. Factors affecting profitability are classified into external (market, ecological, logistical) and internal (resource, managerial, technological). Active leverage factors and passive indicator factors influencing profitability are distinguished. Scenario analysis results, obtained using the matrix multiplication function “MMULT”, are presented. A matrix-based toolkit is proposed for analyzing pathways to ensure and increase the profitability of agrarian enterprises. In the second chapter, an empirical analysis of the resource provision level for production processes in agrarian enterprises of Poltava Oblast is conducted, based on statistical data for 2017–2024. Trends are identified, including reductions in sown areas for grain crops, livestock numbers, energy capacities, and aging of the machine-tractor fleet, all of which constrain profitability growth potential. Despite rising costs of production and sales, a moderate increase in the profitability of agricultural products in Poltava Oblast is observed. The structure of operating costs and production prime cost is analyzed in detail by items (labor costs, material costs, depreciation), revealing structural shifts and reserves for optimization. The comprehensive indicator of financial and economic security for regional agrarian enterprises shows a declining trend, increasing the risks of losing financial stability in the agricultural sector. A system for modeling production activity using panel data with fixed effects in Microsoft Excel was developed and practically implemented. The system covers the full cycle: data structuring, calculation of averages, within-group deviations, consistent coefficient estimates, and individual effects. This enables accurate ranking of enterprises by unobserved heterogeneity and identification of specific internal factors of economic efficiency. Individual effects for the studied agrarian enterprises were evaluated, with the leaders being LLC “Savyntsi”, Agricultural Enterprise “Vitchyzna”, and Production Cooperative “Zlahoda”. In the third chapter, a methodology for forecasting profitability indicators is developed, based on the TREND function and regression equations combined with panel data. The methodology includes indicator normalization, factor grouping (operating costs, value of fixed assets), and calculation of forecast values for net income, operating costs, and individual effects for 2026–2028.
