The dissertation is devoted to the study of the phenomenon of tilt as a psycho-emotional state that limits the performance of competitive activity in esports. The work defines the nature, structure, and determinants of tilt, systematizes the factors of its occurrence, and develops strategies for the prevention and minimization of tilt to enhance the psychological stability of esports athletes under competitive conditions. The purpose of this research is to theoretically substantiate and empirically examine the antecedents, contributing factors, and manifestations of tilt in esports, considering the specificity of different game genres, players’ competitive qualification levels, and individual psychological characteristics, and to develop, on this basis, a comprehensive model for tilt prevention. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the following: – for the first time, a conceptual structural-functional model of tilt has been substantiated, viewing tilt as a multi-level cyclical process of psycho-emotional dysregulation in esports competitive activity. The model incorporates the levels of antecedents, activation mechanisms, psycho-emotional dysregulation, and consequences, and explains the mechanisms underlying the formation of a self-reinforcing cycle of tilt development; – for the first time, the structure of tilt manifestations in esports has been identified, and based on cluster and factor analyses, its principal components have been distinguished, namely emotional-behavioral, cognitive-passive, and intrapsychic components, while the leading role of the cognitive-psychological factor in the mechanisms of tilt manifestation has been determined; – for the first time, the antecedents of tilt among esports athletes have been systematized and substantiated as an interconnected risk model comprising psycho-emotional, organizational, and socio-communicative factors; – for the first time, the genre-specific characteristics of tilt manifestations in esports have been established. MOBA disciplines were found to be characterized predominantly by a cognitive-passive and intrapsychic profile of manifestations, whereas team-based FPS disciplines demonstrated a predominantly emotional-behavioral profile; – for the first time, a system of individual-psychological, environmental, and game-related determinants of tilt has been identified, and the dominant role of emotional stability, personality characteristics, and locus of control in shaping susceptibility to tilt development has been established; – for the first time, a comprehensive model of a tilt prevention and mitigation strategy in esports has been developed and scientifically substantiated. The model is based on preventive principles, an eight-stage management algorithm, and the integration of individual, team, and training-organizational levels of intervention, taking into account athletes’ individual psychological characteristics and the specific features of competitive activity; The practical significance of the research results lies in the development of scientifically substantiated practical recommendations for individual and team work on preventing tilt and reducing its negative impact on the performance of esports athletes. The materials of the dissertation have been implemented in the educational and training process of the National University of Ukraine on Physical Education and Sport.
