Zozulia V. The «Kraêznavstvo» journal in the socio-cultural, local history space of Ukraine in the 21st century

The dissertation is devoted to the study of the history of the formation of the «Kraêznavstvo» journalas a scientific publication and the determination of its place and role in the process of forming the socio-cultural and local history space of Ukraine at the beginning of the 21st century. The study has provided an opportunity to clarify historical conditions of the foundation and functioning of the «Kraêznavstvo» journaland its acquisition of the status of a scientific publication, as well as to identify the main principles of the journal's editorial policy, the forms of presentation of materials on its pages, and their substantive and genre content. Relevance of the study. Among the factors that shape the socio-cultural and local history space of Ukraine in the 21st century, scientific and popular science periodicals, among which the «Kraêznavstvo» journal stands out as the only professional local history publication, have gained importance. Given its growing role in covering the features of historical development of various regions of Ukraine, the problems of the theory and practice of local history, and its significant contribution to the development of domestic historical and local history thought, the need for a comprehensive study of the peculiarities of the journal's functioning is becoming more urgent. It is relevant to clarify the influence of scientific periodicals of a humanitarian profile on the formation of modern socio-cultural and local history space of Ukraine using the example of the «Kraêznavstvo» journal. The study and comparison of the views of historians, representatives of the local history movement and the public published on the pages of the journal, the identification of trends in the development of various aspects of modern local history will make it possible to clarify the peculiarities of the organization of the publication of scientific periodicals, to outline the prospects for further scientific research on this issue, which determines the relevance of the topic of the dissertation research. In the first section of the dissertation, based on historiographic analysis, the state of scientific development of the problem is assessed, and the prospects for further research of the journal are determined. It is concluded that the topic of studying scientific periodicals, including the «Kraêznavstvo» journal, through the prism of its place and role in modern socio-cultural and local history space still remains beyond the due attention of researchers. Therefore, the author of the dissertation's appeal to this problem and its comprehensive study at the level of the dissertation work are considered quite justified and relevant. The source base of the study is analyzed. It is found that its basis is made up of archival and published documents in combination with materials from the journal itself, memoirs of editorial board members and authors. This makes it possible to characterize the prerequisites and practical measures for resuming the journal's work and its formation as a scientific publication. Theoretical and methodological foundations of the dissertation work include such components as the principles of research, methods of cognition and conceptual and terminological apparatus. In order to study the place and role of the «Kraêznavstvo» journal in the socio-cultural, local history space of Ukraine of the 21st century, general scientific and special historical methods have been applied. In the second section, the «Kraêznavstvo» journal is considered in the context of the development of Ukrainian local history. It seems quite justified to clarify historical aspects of the functioning of the «Kraêznavstvo» journal. It is established that its founding and publication in 1927-1930s became a noticeable phenomenon of the cultural and scientific life of Ukraine in the second half of the 1920s. Despite the ideological regulation imposed on it, the local history journal not only made a significant contribution to the development of regional studies, but also reflected in its activities the process of the emergence and formation of Ukrainian local history, the educational and research movement of the Ukrainian intelligentsia, and its aspiration for national revival. It is studied that the activities of the All-Ukrainian Union of Local Historians established in 1990 has become the main prerequisite for the revival during the independence of Ukraine of the local history journal repressed in 1930. The resumption in 1993 of the publication of the «Kraêznavstvo» journal, which until the end of the 1990s was published without a certain periodicity and largely preserved the traditions of the popular science publication of 1927–1930s, has become the logical completion of the implemented organizational measures.
