The dissertation is devoted to a comprehensive study of the representation of social issues affecting territorial communities in the Ivano-Frankivsk region in online media under conditions of uncertainty, specifically during the COVID-19 pandemic and the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine (2019–2023). The study examines the functioning of the media space of territorial communities, the specific features of media coverage of social issues, and the role of online media in shaping public opinion, facilitating communication between local self-government authorities and residents, as well as enhancing the transparency of governance processes and promoting civic engagement. The relevance of the research is determined by the ongoing local self-government reform, the increasing role of territorial communities, the rapid development of digital communication technologies, the growing significance of online media during periods of societal crisis, and the insufficient scholarly attention devoted to the functioning of the local media environment. The source base of the research consists of publications from the online media outlets RAI TV and Radio Company, Informator Ivano-Frankivsk, Informator Kolomyia, and Informator Kalush. During the period from 2019 to 2023, a total of 6,556 journalistic publications were identified, of which 1,924 were selected for content analysis. The empirical basis of the research consists of the results of a survey conducted among 259 residents of territorial communities in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. For the first time, the dissertation proposes a classification of the social issues of territorial communities in the Ivano-Frankivsk region as represented in online media under conditions of uncertainty. It systematizes the information platforms of the region's territorial communities, substantiates the multidimensional nature of social issues, analyses their thematic structure as well as the genre and format characteristics of media coverage, develops a typology of the audiences of territorial community online media, and identifies the specific features of residents' perception of social content. As part of the study, a media map of the territorial communities of the Ivano-Frankivsk region was developed, encompassing official websites, local online media, social media platforms, messaging applications, and other digital information platforms. The findings indicate that all territorial communities maintain official online platforms (websites); however, considerable differences exist in terms of their functionality, content quality, and the use of contemporary digital communication tools. The dissertation proposes an original classification of the social issues of territorial communities, comprising the following dimensions: health and well-being, education, economy, social and legal issues, political and administrative governance, culture, energy, and the environment. An algorithm for the content analysis of social content published in online media was developed, incorporating the analysis of thematic categories, genre structure, and content formats. In addition, a typology of territorial community media audiences was designed based on spatial and social characteristics, socio-demographic attributes, behavioural patterns, levels of audience engagement with media content, and communicative activity. The research findings demonstrate that social issues occupy a central place within the information space of territorial communities, encompassing matters of social protection, healthcare, education, support for internally displaced persons and war veterans, infrastructure development, and local self-government. The study also reveals that online media in the Ivano-Frankivsk region perform not only an informational function but also a socializing one by promoting public dialogue, increasing public awareness, strengthening local identity, and enhancing interaction between local authorities and community members. At the same time, the study substantiates the need to strengthen the analytical dimension of online media content, expand the use of interactive feedback mechanisms, and ensure compliance with professional standards of journalism. The theoretical significance of the dissertation lies in the analysis of scholarly approaches to the study of social issues in territorial communities as represented in online media, the refinement of the methodology for analysing social media content, and the further development of the theoretical foundations of journalism studies and social communications. The practical significance of the research findings resides in their potential application by local self-government authorities, editorial offices of online media, and information platforms of territorial communities, as well as in the educational process of higher education institutions for teaching courses in journalism, media communications, and social communications.
