SUMMARY
Yurchyshyn N. I. Zenon Kossak (1907–1939) in the Ukrainian national liberation movement of the 1920s–1930s. – Qualification scientific work in the form of a manuscript.
Dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the specialty 032 «History and Archaeology». Drohobych Ivan Franko State Pedagogical University, Drohobych, 2026.
The relevance of the dissertation research is due to modern challenges associated with the Russian armed aggression against Ukraine, which has actualized public and scientific interest in the historical experience of the Ukrainian national liberation movement of the 20th century. In the context of the struggle for state independence, the rethinking of the personalities of the liberation movement, whose names have remained on the margins of historiography for decades due to ideological restrictions or the lack of comprehensive research, is of particular importance.
In this context, a comprehensive study of the figure of Zenon Kossak (1907–1939) is scientifically and socially significant, since his activities as a member of the Ukrainian Military Organization and the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, one of the organizers of the underground struggle in Galicia, and the leaders of the Carpathian Sich combined the ideological, organizational, and military dimensions of the liberation movement. The study of the figure of Zenon Kossak combines microhistorical and macrohistorical approaches, contributing to the formation of a holistic vision of the Ukrainian liberation movement and its historical heritage.
Dissertation is devoted to the analysis of Zenon Kossak’s theoretical and ideological views and the formation of his worldview in the context of the Ukrainian nationalist movement of the 1920s–1930s. The main factors influencing his ideological position are considered: family and gymnasium environment, experience of the First World War and national liberation struggles, participation in youth and underground organizations. Attention is also paid to Zenon Kossak’s intellectual training, his journalistic activities and contribution to the formation of the ideology of Ukrainian nationalism. His views on social issues and his commitment to active, including forceful, methods of struggle are analyzed. A significant place is devoted to the analysis of Zenon Kossak’s journalistic heritage: early texts from 1931, later works from 1937, and «prison» works, in particular, created in collaboration with D. Myron – «Orlyk» – «44 rules of life of a Ukrainian nationalist», which influenced the training of members of the nationalist underground.
