This process demonstrates the system of society's requirements for teachers, which are embedded in the educational standards and practical experience of Canada. The study reveals the historical development of teacher education in Canada, analyses the system of continuous education of teachers and examines the concept of «professional development» in the works of Canadian scientists. The requirements for a modern Canadian teacher, the types and forms of professional development of teachers, as well as the content of professional development in the conditions of informatization of education are highlighted. The positive aspects of the Canadian experience that can be adapted and applied in the Ukrainian context to improve the quality of education and develop innovative approaches in education are identified.
