Essay

The imbalance between the intensity of physical and psychological stressors and recovery periods leads to the development of non-functional overreaching with a subsequent transition to overtraining syndrome. The variability of internal and external factors impairs further competitive performance and the implementation of the training plan, while causing psychophysiological disorders, deterioration of well-being, and the emergence of symptoms of autonomic maladaptation. Numerous studies confirm that the application of various post-exercise recovery modalities mitigates metabolic and inflammatory changes in the body during intense training and contributes to increased performance and improved function of the body's regulatory systems. Specifically, the studies show that intermittent pneumatic compression improves muscle strength and speed parameters in athletes, increases flexibility, lowers the pain sensitivity for 3–7 days, reduces muscle soreness, and decreases levels of inflammatory markers. Based on the study findings, intermittent pneumatic compression can be confidently recommended for broad integration into individual athlete training schedules as a highly effective and evidence-based post-exercise recovery modality.
