Objects of investigation: ternary systems formed by scandium with carbon and d-transition metals of IV-VI groups (Sc-M-C). Aim of the work: experimental study of the phase equilibria and construction of the Sc-Ti-C, Sc-Zr-C, Sc-Hf-C, Sc-Cr-C phase diagrams; regularities in the topology of the phase diagrams of the Sc-M-C ternary systems, dicovering of the factors which influence a possibility of formation of ternary compounds in the Sc-M-C systems. Cast and annealed alloys were investigated with X-ray, differential thermal, microprobe, metallographical and microdurometrical analyses. Prediction of the unknown Sc-M-C solidus surfaces was presented based on the experimentally conscturted phase diagrams and discovered regularities. Areas of usage: physical chemistry of the metal systems, materials science and development of new materials.
