Essay

The subject of the investigation is the English syllable and its functioning in the texts of three styles: fiction (prose and poetry), scientific prose and реriodicals. Isomorphic and distinctive features in the frequency of the phoneme classes (vowels and consonants), groups of phonemes and definite phonemes in the subsystems of different length were revealed as the result of the investigation. Such distinctive features as: 1) distribution of the syllable length; 2) the average length of a syllable; 3) frequency of the nuclear vowels and consonants irrespective of the length and the position in the subsystem; 4) distribution of the phonemes groups and definite phonemes according to the frequency range; 5) frequency of the phonemes groups and definite phonemes in the subsystems of different length proved to be statistical parameters of the style.
