Essay

Object of research: carbon multilayers (MLs)with period 2-5 nm. Purpose of research: to establish in-fluence of growth conditions and annealing on forma-tion, structure and X-ray optical performances of the MLs. Methods of research: X-ray diffractometry, electron microscopy, electron diffraction, measure-ments of reflectivity. Results and novelty: Physical conditions of Ni/C and Cr/C multilayer formation and their thermal degradation during heating have been established. The role of boron addition to prevent graphitization of amorphous carbon has been deter-mined. Effect of joint action of the phase equilibrium of layers and low atom mobility on thermal stability of MLs. Application: X-ray microanalysis, X-ray optics, plasma diagnostic, astrophysics
