Object of study: thermotropic and lyotropic liquid crystalline systems. Aim of study: clarification of intermolecular structure and phase state features related to translational ordering in helically twisted and lyotropic liquid crystalline systems. Methods of study and equipment: differential scanning calorimetry, optical spectroscopy; thermoanalytical system Mettler TA 3000, spectrophotometers Hitachi-330, Specord M-80, microscope Polam-211. Theoretical and practical results, novelty: established that in mixtures of cyanobiphenyls and azomethines upon introduction of chiral dopants helical twisting is observed in the temperature region of existence of smectic-B phase. It is shown that variation with temperature of relative transmission intensity in near-IR region can be an analytical evidence of changes in liquid crystalline phase state of hydrated phospholipids. Possibility is shown of detection of small doses of ionizing radiations using thermotropic liquid crystalline systems. Field of application : scientific research of liquid crystals and biomembranes.
