Essay

Development of effective numerical methods for solving the structural mechanics problems is considered. These problems appear at the calculation of large steel vertical cylindrical tanks, and on the base of proposed methods some problems of statics of cylindrical shells studied. The universal computing program package is designed. Within the framework of the program the problems of calculating stress-strain state of cylindrical shells are solved and investigated. The number of important effects that take place under the self-balanced longitudinal kinematic loading of curvilinear edge of shells are revealed, connected with loading type and edge support conditions. The results of the study were used for practical evaluation of influence of foundations subsidence of large tanks on stresses appearing in their walls.
