Essay

Excitonic properties of diluted magnetic semiconductor nanostructures are studied. Magnetic dependence of the ground state and of the first excited state of the exciton in semimagnetic quantum wells and quantum wires is calculated. It is shown that in the quantum wire the line splitting exceeds considerably the corresponding value for a quantum well. The broadening of the exciton line caused by elastic scattering of the exciton on fluctuations of magnetic impurity concentration and spin projection in semimagnetic semiconductor quanum wells is calculated. It is shown, that magnetic field dependence of the line broadening is considerable and different for - and -components of optical transitions. The line broadening of the -component of the exciton transition increases as the magnetic field rises, and the broadening of the -component decreases. Model for calculation of paramagnetic enhancement of the giant spin splitting of the exciton states in the quantum well Cd1-xMnxTe/CdTe/Cd1-xMnxTe is proposed.
