Ciliated protozoa in the epiphyton. The aim was to investigate the structure of communities and the functional activity of ciliated protozoa in the epiphyton of aquatic macrophytes. The high levels of species richness and functional activity were shown. The patterns of seasonal changes and the role in the epiphytic community has been determined. The methods of quantitative estimation are developed. The results can be used for the accounts of efficiency of the aquatic ecosystems, for the rating of a biodiversity, and the estimation of water quality.
