Essay

Objective of the study - establish a relation between creation and evolution of point defects on anion and cation sublattices and phase transformations, that take place in single crystals ofmagnesium-aluminate spinel and yttria-stabilized zirconia under irradiation. Methods of investigation: crystal irradiation with neutrons and ions with the purpose of modifying their properties by creation of radiation defects; measurements of optical absorption, transmission and luminescence; Rutherford backscattering; transmission electron microscopy and electron microdiffraction.
