The objectives and aims of the dissertation consisted of a series of investigations leading to the introduction of new methods of operation for fractured patella so as to improve the outcome. A new device - patellarclamp has been designed and manufactured which is used to reduce the patella's fragment during the latter's osteosyntesis. Three new methods of stable reduction for fractured patella have been successfully introduced among 69 patients. The methods consisted of; the use of polyester sutures on two levels and cerclage during twopart fracture; use of a universal patellarplate during communited patellar fracture; and finally the introduction of a modified external fixator for patella's fracture. For the purpose of postoperative rehabilitation of patients a new type of calipers were used (in 34 patients). The results were improved up to 83% compared to existing methods.
