Essay

The effects of new heavy particles beyond the Standard Model of elementary particles in low-energy scattering processes are investigated. The aim is to derive the model-independent relations between the parameters of interactions of new heavy particles with the known elementary particles, following from the renormalizability of the underlying theory. The approach is based on the renormalization group equations for the scattering amplitudes and the decoupling theorem. The renormalization group relations for the low-energy effective Lagrangians describing deviations from the Standard Model are obtained. By applying the renormalization group relations, the all possible types of interactions of the Standard Model fermion currents to a new heavy neutral vector boson (Z' boson) are derived. Observables useful for the detection of the Z' signals in an electron-positron annihilation into fermion pairs are proposed. The experimental bounds on the observables are obtained. The practical usage of the results is t o treat the experimental data from modern and future accelerators.
