Essay

The object of the investigation is oxide varistor ceramics. The purpose of the investigation is development of physical principles of polarization phenomena application for the study and control of the features of ceramics materials with intergranular potential barriers. The method of the investigation is thermodepolarization analysis and capacitive field effect. The detailed experimental and theoretical investigations have been performed, the ideas have been developed and the models for the analysis of temperature dependence of thermodepolarization currents, currents of isothermic depolarization and electric field dependencies of dielectric permittivity and electrical conduction of inhomogeneous ceramic system have been suggested. The physical principles of application of studied polarization phenomena for the estimation of structural and electrical parameters of varistor ceramics have been developed. Suggested methods of physical parameters estimation can be used for the control of characteristics of polycrystalline materials and devices based on such materials at laboratory conditions as well as scientific accompaniment of production of varistors, ceramics gas-sensors and other systems with intergranular potential barriers.
