Babayeva H. Assessment and Choice of Initial Materials for Mulberry Selection for Wilt Resistance under Conditions of Ukraine

The object of study: The assessment of varieties and forms of the mulberry and its selection for resistance to wilt. The purpose of study: To perform the assessment of the mulberry gene pool in various climatic zones of Ukraine and to choose a promising starting material for selection for resistance to wilt; to specify the species composition of wilt pathogens and peculiarities of their development on mulberry varieties different as regards their resistance to wilt. The researches were carried out in pursuance of generally accepted methods with certain additions. For the first time in sericulture, the complex of methods of assessing the wilt resistance of mulberry varieties and choosing promising forms for selection was used. The significant differences in the anatomical wood structure of mulberry varieties different as regards their resistance to wilt were revealed. For the first time, the assessment of the mulberry gene pool concerning their resistance to wilt was performed and, based thereon, 57 varieties were separated and included in selection process; three highly productive wilt resistant mulberry varieties were bred.
