Essay

Dissertation presents the results of study of the system of family Cornaceae (Dumort.) Dumort., it's biological features, and economic value of it's representatives in Ukraine. The results of research, aimed at identifying of taxonomical consistence of the family and its system's working-out, have been analyzed. It was established that flora of Ukraine accounted 3 aboriginal and 27 introduced species falling under 4 genera: Cornus, Swida, Bothrocaryum, Cynoxylon; 22 species of Dogwood have been introduced in Forest-Steppe. Rhythms of development, peculiarities of the stem growth, blooming and fruiting of species Cornaceae have been studied. It has been established that phenological phases of the most of introduced species were characterized by constancy and coordinated with climate-weather conditions of the zones of introduction. Resistance of the species of Cornaceae family to unfavorable environmental factors has been found; as well as their high ecological flexibility, winter and drought resistance,resistance to gas and dust pollution, to pests and sickness. Optimum terms and ways of reproduction have been worked out. The results of introduction of species of genera Bothrocaryum, Cornus, Swida, Cynoxylon in forest-steppe of Ukraine have been summarized. The directions and prospects of utilization of Cornaceae species in the national economy have been presented.
