Essay

The object is martensitic tetragonal-monoclinic transformations in ZrO2 based solid solutions. The aim is to study applied mechanical stress induced transformations in powders or ceramics from solid solutions of Y2O3 or MgO in ZrO2. Methods are quantative X-ray phase analysis and mechanical testing. Features of mechanically induced transformations in powders and ceramics are investigated. Heating processes accompanying the transformations are discussed. Field of use is zirconia material science.
