Essay

The dissertation is dedicated to the ecologic, stratigrafic and paleontologic investigation of benthic foraminifera of the continental edge of Guinea. The influence of environmental factors on the distribution of benthic foraminifera has been investigated. Grups of foraminifera, differing in species composition and quantitative characteristics, of each species have been identified and described. It has been established that territorial distribution of these grups depeds on the changes in hydrological and hydrochemical stracture of water. A specific mangrove complex of benthic foraminifera in the mouths and beds of Guinea rivers has been distinguished and described. A subdivision of the Upper Quaternery deposits of the edge plato of the investigated region has been made acording to planctonic foraminifera. Three subzones of Plaistocene-Holocene age have been established. In the same cross-section have been studies of benthic foraminifera. The results of joint study of planctic and benthic foraminifera in the Upper Quaternary sediments of the edge plato of the investigated area shown.
