Essay

The thesis deals with the complex studies of the symbolics as an important part of the figurative-and-poetic system of the Ukrainian ballads. An attempt has been made to form the integral idea of the motivation factors and mechanisms of the formation of definite symbols, symbol meanings and their setting as a means of folk-poetic world outlook. A detailed analysis has been made in the thesis to investigate the textual functioning and development of such dominant symbols as water, fire, wind, and earth in ballads' poetry; the systems of their semantic derivative and secondary symbol-meanings have been described.
