Essay

Dissertation is devoted to study of place and role of ethno-social notions in the structure of university students' "self-conception". The author has substantiated theoretically and investigated empirically the ties between ethno-social notions (the main contents of ethnic identity) and the level attended by "self-conception". The influence of ethno-social notions on the success of young people's social adaptation in the conditions of society transformation has been determined and substantiated. It has been proved that the ethnic identity formed by ethno-social notions, should be considered as a component of social identity, but not as independent psychological formation. The internal disconcordance - (unconformities in the identification matrix, understated self-appraisal and negative self-relation, external locus of control, conformism) has been shown to be a major factor of social desadaptation. Transformations of ethnic identity in the form of hypo- and hyperidentity can be considered as hypercompensation formations, that arise in disharmonious personalities with adaptation and self-realization problems; by understated self-appraisal and expectative estimation.
