Essay

The thesis is devoted to theoretical studies of thermodynamic properties of simple crystals. A method of statistical description of solids is proposed. The method is based on derivation of an expression for the binary function of atomic displacements and variational procedure of calculation of an effective quasi-elastic bond parameter. Thermodynamic parameters of the rare gas crystals and noble metals were calculated. A model of melting as a phase transition in a system of interacting vacancies is developed.
