Essay

The interaction of components in Y-{Al,Si,Ge}-Ga ternary systems has been investigated. Isothermal sections of the phase diagrams have been constructed at 400, 600 and 8000C in a wide compositional range. The crystal structures of YGe3, YGe1.9, Y3Ge4 binary germanides and 17 ternary compounds have been determined. Five of these compounds were found to belong to the own structure types. The others ternary compounds belong to the known structure types. The alloys of YGa based solid solutions with CrB structure were shown to be the Pauli paramagnets and their homogeneity regions are determined predominantly by the atomic size factor. The alloys of regions YAlxGa4-x, YGexGa3-x series existance are diamagnetics with the anomalously high values of magnetic susceptibility. The model, according to which diamagnetism of this alloys isconditioned by the formation of the atomic circuits of high radii in their structures, has been proposed. Here, 3b (4b) elements form p-type interatomic bonds within these circuits. The procedure of coating deposition from YGa2 based solid solutions of Al, Si and Ga has been developed and tested and the electrical conductivity of such coatings was shown to be of metallic type.
