The stages of the establishment of Ukrainian Folk-lore study on the materials of the native periodicals of the first half of the ХІХ th century. The reasons which grounded on the origin of the scientific interest for folk arts in Ukraine are considered. The theoretic-methodological problems appeared in the process of the development of the science are analysed. The notes, comments and annotations, theoretical articles published on pages of periodicals uncover the level of the development of folk-lore think of that period. The activity of little known investigators of folk-lore of the first half of the ХІХ th century are researched. The publication of folk-lore for future investigators are characterised. The folk-lore sources, their importance for the establishment of folk-lore science in the publication of Ukrainian writers of that time are researched. The different ways of utilisation of folk-lore sources by authors and the translation of foreign folk-lore are indicated.
