Essay

Investigation objects: aqueous and non-aqueous solutions of 1-1 electrolytes. Objective: to develop and validate a method for separating the integral thermodynamic characteristics of ion association in individual solvents to see the contributions from the van't-Hoff's component (true) and from the dielectric one. Also to determine the effect of temperature and that of physico-chemical properties of the solvent on the residual dielectric friction and Walden's product. Methods: conductivity measurements, thermodynamic evaluations. Have been estimated: the reasons for extremum in poly-thermal plots of ion association constants to appear; the conditions for the compensation effect to realize; factors that affect the character of poly-thermal plot of Walden's product. It has also been found that the residual dielectric friction reflects the effect of change in average solvation number with temperature. Degree of application: a theory of thermodynamic processes in the electrolyte solutions has further been developed, which enables to predict the properties of various electrolytes, to determine their nature and to regulate the processes occurring in them.
