Badran N. Surgical treatment of the complicated thoracolumbar spine injuries in early period of trauma

The thesis is dedicated to the problem of improvement results of treatment of patients with complicated traumatic thoracolumbar spinal injuries by means of differentiated and combined neurosurgical operations. The material of the work is based on clinical picture study and regularities of the disease course, analysis of diagnostic possibilities of modern auxiliary techniques and surgical results in 123 patients with thoracolumbar spinal cord injuries. In course of the scientific work realization there were elaborated and implemented principles of differentiated and combined neurosurgical treatment of patients with traumatic thoracolumbar spinal injuries in acute and early periods of trauma considering new surgical approaches and implementation of stabilization systems to damaged spinal cord portions that considerably improved treatment efficacy of the given group of patients. Improvement of the neurological state was achieved in 65 (52,8%) of patients. Persistent reduction of pain manifestations was reached in 91 (77,1%) patients of 118 patients who suffered pain syndrome. The main results of the work are implemented into practice.
