The thesis is the first in history detailed research devoted to Dmitro N. Ovsyanyko-Kulykovsky's social, political, cultural, educational work as one of the components and integral parts of the scientific and social thought development in Russian Empire in the 2-nd half of XIX - the beginning of XX c. In this paper the author analyzes the previous research works regarding his issue, he uses a wide range of sources that reveal the scientist's life and work accomplishments. The object of his investigation is also the impact that Ovsyanyko-Kulykovsky has exerted on the intelligentsia movement, on the social and political thought in Russian Empire, on the state politics formation in the sphere of national relations; and his actions, directed toward the Ukrainian press acknowledgement. The researcher defames Ovsyanyko-Kulykovsky's role in the development of higher and secondary education in Russian Empire and in world science, in organizational establishments formation and political activities of Russian and Ukraine emigration.
