Essay

The dissertation is based on results of research surgical treatment 167 patients with weapon wounds to the head in the peace time in Ukraine. Such injuries were the result of numerous intentional or unintentional events. Groups of patients are divided depending on type of the weapon: military, homemade, hunting, gas and pneumatic guns.The majority of wounds were from fowling-pieces, gas-guns, bows, air and homemade weapons - 60,5%. Projectiles were the shots, pieces of lead, nails, bolts and other. Analyzed features of surgical treatment of such injuries.They have different morbidity and mortality. Improvements in the understanding of the mechanisms of gunshot wounds to the head in the peace time and aggressive medical and surgical management of patients with these injuries may lead to improved outcomes. The diagnostic and medical algorithm of treatment of such victims in a peace time is developed.
