Voyevoda O. Reengineering of CAD for using in the Internet

The effective ways for using of existing electronic CAD software are investigated in the thesis. The models of system component's distribution are studied. Scripting and system languages are considered to be used in reengineering of legacy CAD software. Compression technique is introduced to decrease size of network transfers during remote calls. Another way to increase efficiency of distributed communications - grouping of remote calls - is studied. Email-based scheme was proposed as a way of remote access to the CAD tools. An implementation of the scheme is described, which is a part of distributed CAD being built on the ALLTED package base. The gateway to access remote CORBA- based resources, which uses web technologies to transparently pass firewalls facilities, was introduced and implemented.
