Essay

The dissertation presents the analysis of a conflict as a social-psychological phenomenon from the standpoint of philosophical-sociological and psychological interpretations. The dissertation suggests a socio-psychological model of a conflict based on the principle of objective-subjective nature of conflicts. The internal (subjective) determinants which determine the behavior style of an individual in a conflict are the individual psychological properties of the personality and the socio-psychological characteristics of his/her self-concept. The dissertation analyzes the category of social identity of the personality, which is a part of the self-concept of the personality, pertaining to the group affiliation and plays an important role in determination of the conflicts. It has been established, that in definition of a situation as a conflict and in selection of the behavior style in a conflict such structural elements of self-concept as self-esteem and social identity have priority over individual-psychological properties of the personality. Analysis of correlation dependencies permitted to establish significant links between social-psychological characteristics of the personality and the selection of behavior style in a conflict. It has been established, that a considerable social identity ensures awareness of importance degree in certain conflict situation for a young individual and determines selection by the individual of the behavior style in conflict situation.
