Nanoscale crystals of bone bioapatite. The original information about carbonate location in the bioapatite were obtained. Experimental evidence was obtained for the preferred localization of structural defects in the crystallite subsurface regions. The non- apatitic environment of the Ca-deficient bioapatite crystals is represented by CaCO3-containing layers. To summarize a model of ultrastructural organization of bioapatite crystal particle is proposed. X-ray diffraction, mass spectrometry, scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectro- metry. Field of application - the design of novel orthopaedic biomaterials.
