The goal of the work is the investigation of free-surface stratified flows. A three-dimensional non-hydrostatic model has been developed. The numerical algorithm is based on the solution of Navier- Stokes equations with free surface in generalized curvilinear coordinate system with decomposition technique of pressure and velocity field on hydrostatic and non-hydrostatic components. The model equations are integrated with a mode splitting technique for barotropic and baroclinic components. The new scientific results concernig the particularities of the degeneration of basin-scale waves and gravitational currents and the hydrodynamics of long straits were obtained. The results of the work can be used for numerical modeling of dynamic processes in seas, lakes and straits in hydrophysic organizations.
