Essay

The object of the study is lens alpha-crystallin. The aim is investigation of structural characteristics of alpha-crystallin that are important for its chaperone-like function. Protein isolation techniques and optical techniques are used. It is shown that elevated pressure causes an increase of alpha-crystallin chaperone-like activity that is accompanied with the changes of its tertiary and quaternary but not secondary structure. Chaperone-like activity is not characteristic for isolated subunits of alpha-crystallin. Field of application - scientific institutions of biological profile.
