Evolution of opinions towards commodity turnover, as well as essence of this term and its correlation with terms of trade and barter, has been examined in the thesis. Criteria for structural classification and functions of commodity turnover have been singled out. The mechanism of interaction between the commodity turnover and other elements of national economy have been summarized and systematized. Position of the commodity turnover as such significantly ensuring the transition of economy to a progressive development level during economic transformations, has been proved. On the basis of foreign experience, a number of issues on improving commodity turnover in Ukraine have been proposed. Opportunities and perspectives of domestic commodity turnover entering the world system of commodity circulation have been analyzed. Distribution of roles of formal and informal restrictions in the process of commodity turnover has been proposed. The state influence on commodity turnover during economic transformations has been proved as such that is needed to correct its development directions timely. The level of transaction costs has been determined as an object of state regulation, and thus a respective concept of state regulation has been proposed basing on this.
