Dissertation is devoted to the problem of polishing flat surfaces of the articles from silica-alumina materials (SAM) by bounded polishing tools. The results of investigations of influence of kinematics of processing on uniformity of tool wear are presented. Design of the working layer of polishing tool for processing flat surfaces of SAM on bridge grinding-polishing machines with planetary motion of the tools, which provides for high uniformity of working layer is developed. The model fragment of SAM Me[AlSi3O8] is proposed. This along with consideration of interaction of processed material and material of polishing tool in multifrequency mode enabled extending the cluster model of wear to the class of silica-alumina materials. The characteristic of the working layer of the tool that consists of aluminum oxide polishing powder and PET bound is developed. The procedures of assessment of the quality of polished surfaces by reflectance and fullness of development of idiochromatic colouring are developed. Based on the results of the researches the recommendations concerning application of tools for finishing flat surfaces of the articles from silica-alumina materials are developed.
