Essay

In 2-week-old male Gallus domesticus, responses of adrenals to acute cold or restraint stress were shown to differ, generally corresponding to the phases of classic stress response. Characteristics of adaptation to cooling were also studied in chickens after pharmacological stimulation or inhibition of adrenal cells producing glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids or catecholamines. Stress response to acute cooling was revealed to depend on preliminary chronic pharmacological modulation of adrenal secretory functions.
